FactsSociety-
-Perceived of as being weak
-They receive little or no respect in the society
-Are harshly abused, treated no better than animals
-Women provided food and earned an income
-Trading in the market was a daily routine for Igbo women
-When the Trans-Atlantic slave trade took place, women lost economical, political and social status

Marriage-
-Would be chosen as a wife based on trading ability
-Marriage was considered the only important goal
-Often one of many wives, wanted to produce men

Young Women-
-As a girl, they were taught laundry, cooking, baking, the use of the sewing machine, and the caring of infants

-Completed small chores as a girl, then cooking and cleaning later when older
-Women were trained to be obedient to their parents and later to their husbands
-Knowledge was passed down to them from elders
